Backhousia myrtifolia - CINNAMON MYRTLE

Bushy tree that is more a temperamental shrub in Victoria. I must admit, in Phillip Island, where I live, I'm not having much luck. We have very sandy, saline soil here though and I fear this plant does not appreciate it. I must invest more time into correcting my soil.

The leaves can be used fresh or dried in food and drinks.  When crushed the leaves smell and taste of cinnamon.

Endemic Range

Rainforests of Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

Flowers

Summer (December- February)

Fruit

Autumn (March to May)
